Kratom

Kratom is a herbaceous plant indigenous to Southeast Asia, including Thailand, Myanmar, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Papua New Guinea. This Mitragyna Speciosa or kratom plant grows up to as tall as 12-30 feet. The environment that kratom requires in terms of climate, temperature, pH of the soil, humidity, etc. is favored by Southeast Asia in which kratom grows and is exported from.

Kratom has been in use by the people of its origin since the nineteenth century for its curative and restorative properties and capability to be extensively used in medicine. It was especially famous amongst the labor and working-class for its soothing effects on the body as kratom is also a relaxant. It took away the tiredness and fatigue and allowed that person to experience a good night’s sleep.

Scientific studies of kratom

Kratom has been making rounds around the globe for its diversified effects on the body and mind and has gained the attention of higher authorities in the pharmacy world. Due to the alkaloid content and biological profile of kratom, companies are interested to know more about the components present in kratom and observe their results. This is done to see if this herb can be used in synthetic medicine or not. Many pharmaceutical companies have carried out lab tests and many scientists are also researching the effects, results, and composition levels that kratom has on human beings.

There is not enough evidence collected to prove the exact effects but compiling the results that most of the people have experienced shows that kratom goes in the brain and attached the mu-opioid receptor which helps with the opioid withdrawal symptoms. It contains the alkaloid mitragynine which kicks in a stimulating effect.

Apart from stimulating effects it also has sedative effects on the body. It is used by many as an alternative to morphine and is a substance that can be used to combat drug addiction and dependence.

Psychological effects of kratom

As mentioned earlier, there has not been enough evidence to make a claim if kratom has a negative effect on the brain or not. There have been issues on how it might cause physical dependence and addiction but on the other hand this herb is known to help with opioid withdrawal symptoms. Some strains are also beneficial in curbing psychological conditions like depression and anxiety etc.

The alkaloids present in kratom leaves stimulate the brain to release endorphins which elevate the mood and also allow it to calm the nerves down, preventing anxiety.

There are different strains of kratom that have multiple effects on the body. Some strains are mild and only have stimulating effects. Some are balanced and some have intense effects which are inclined towards sedative behavior. It depends on the type of leaf and its chemistry.

Kratom strains that are used to deal with depression:

Kratom strains that are used for anxiety and restlessness are:

While these strains might work for some people, it is not guaranteed that they will work for everyone. It is better to only issue low doses of these recommended strains to check if the results are achieved or not. Low doses range from 2g-5g. If the quality of kratom is top notch, then these doses will be enough to get the desired results.

It is better to not do the trying and testing method when it comes to kratom. This is because overdose of kratom can lead to harmful effects and unwanted consequences, both physically and mentally. Any dose that exceeds 8g is considered as high.
