grass

If you own a house then you probably have some sort of a garden whether that is a big one or a small one. Many gardens will have one thing in common, what is that thing? Grass.

Grass can be an amazing thing as it offers so much to life, animals can graze on it, it provides shelter for smaller creatures, as well as being able to use it for constructing materials.

However, grass can be incredibly frustrating to keep, as it constantly needs to be maintained, whether that is being cut shorter when it grows long, watered you live in a drier part of the world, and sometimes even needs artificial sunlight. visit here

That being said, it is possible to rip it all up and install artificial grass, which has become a more modern and easier solution to having grass in your garden. But should you install it? Here’s everything you need to know.

What are the pros of artificial grass

  • As you would expect artificial grass does not need the same maintenance that real grass does, this makes it far easier on the owner who has one less thing to worry about. This also means you have more time to enjoy your garden instead of working on it.
  • It doesn’t matter what time of the year it is, artificial grass will always look the same throughout the year, while regular grass often changes depending on what the weather is like.
  • If you have normal grass you can probably not count the number of times you’ve had to mow your lawn. Mowing your lawn can be harmful to the environment due the fumes that come out of a lawn mower, while artificial grass does not need cutting.
  • Due to artificial grass being so easy to handle it can also benefit those people who might find it harder to actually look after their lawns, such as an elderly person, disabled, or maybe you are someone who is regularly away and doesn’t have time.
  • You might remember those days in the summer, where it was so hot that sprinklers were always needed to look after the grass, artificial grass does not need this and therefore due to less water usage is better for the environment.
  • It is also very pet friendly, as dogs or other animals cannot dig it up, as well as being easy to clean.
  • In the long term artificial turf can be more cost effective as you won’t have to worry about paying for all those things needed to maintain regular grass.
  • Surprisingly it also has excellent drainage properties, as well as drying faster than natural grass.
  • If you are someone with children you won’t have to worry about cleaning those muddy and grassy clothes.
  • It is much more weed resistant, and if you lay weed membrane as well as weed killer you will almost certainly be weed free.
  • You are less likely to have a flooded garden. Unlike real grass it drains better and is easier to deal with.

What are the cons

  • In some factories, the manufacture of artificial grass can be bad for the environment, however this highly depends on the production method.
  • The biggest issue for artificial grass is that installing it can be incredibly expensive, and awkward to do.
  • Some people love gardening and installing an artificial lawn would take away from that, which would be counterproductive.
  • Installing it can take a long period of time, while adding new natural grass is very easy and fast.
  • If you are someone who enjoys that freshly cut grass smell then you might miss out on that as you don’t get it with artificial grass.
  • One of the biggest disadvantages is that it has a lifespan of 7-15 years while natural grass can live a lot longer if it is well looked after.
  • In extreme heat the artificial turf can become very hot, but won’t cause any burns.
  • Biodiversity will be interrupted as the natural home of insects and plants won’t be able to grow naturally.
